I dont know how this compares to HPs but I can get hold of a good 7-8 hours of it during typical use if I keep the brightness adjectives the way down. I once in a blue moon do this though since it makes it strong to see in bright rooms. Under a superior setting though I can get ranges between 4-6 hours. Hope that help.

I LOVE mine - it rocks. I have a few problems with the first MacBook Pro - at hand was an issue beside the chip, but it was replaced especially quickly & free. I've be running Mac's for more than 5 years & would never have anything else. The OS is so stable & they're 99.5% virus-free. They look kewl too.
The 15" macbook pro beside 256mb graphics card, 3 gigs of ram, beside intel core 2 duo 2.33 ghz 4mb shared L2 cache.
It rocks, it is the best notebook available currently. And when the new variation of OSX comes out in spring, apple notebook will be the most advance computers available.
The macbooks are flawless, but I wouldnt reccomend them if you like to play closely of games. Even the 1999 macbook pro is exellent. And you could also run vista on them if you had to.
But surrounded by all seriosness, you cannot buy a better notebook than the macbook pro.

i am a hard to digest downloader and im using my laptop for it.. this means i enjoy to keep my laptop running for more than 24h.. i just now bought a notepal laptop cooler.. is this okay?

The failing fan have happened back (which is why I'm mentioning it) and when the computer began to overheat, it would shutdown to prevent plunder to the processor. While this happened, I purchased the Targus Notebook Chill Mat and it does wonders contained by keeping the laptop cooler while chugging along, doing video editing and publishing.
I recommend that if you have diagnostic tools, to see if your admirer is functioning properly (that how I found out my fan be failing) and if failing, have it replaced or fixed. If you can't bring it fixed or you you don't have warranty, I recommend getting the Targus cooler. It's worked for me.

I would not insist on overclocking a laptop. overclocking requires good cooling, and laptops arent agreed for being low warmth (feel the bottom of it after its been on for 30 minutes.
what does overclock anticipate?
Usually I say avoid over clocking laptops only because they aren't as efficant at cooling as desktops are. And you cant really add any type of watercooling or put a bigger heatsink on. And laptops aren't agreed to run cool in the first place. If you are than be massively careful. Usually the burnout tempature of chips is 55C- 60+C.
DON'T OVERCLOCK A LAPTOP... unless your experience is pious. Heat syncs and coolants will need to be superior so it doesn't overheat and fry the processor.
Take note... in a minute or so the processor can reach warmness of over 100Celsius, the manufactures try to craft the clock as fast as undamagingly possible.
I concur with the previous answers. Don't do it unless you want to buy a brand new laptop.
