Sometimes so programs will not not work properly or work at all. If you own a virus program(expel: Norton anti-virus,age free edition) scan your computer for virus's. With the virus program i have sometimes the virus('s) can be cured and/or will be put into the virus cellar. In what you are describing it could just be that you do not hold enough space within your computer or it could be a malfunction contained by the usb ports and/or the keyboard.

budge to some free online scan sites like www.kaspersky.com/scanforvirus and get something done an online scan !
you can also install a full version of an AntiVirus program and update it to scan your system but within some types of infection the virus wont let you to do that .
if your computer slows down or you seize some unormal error messages when working with your workstation or it hangs commonly you should check it for viruses,worms,trojans... !
