How soaring can a laptop's heat be past overheating and wounding components?

Answer:

Well I work near rugged laptops that are able to run up to 190 degrees and I've widely read that most laptops will function at 110- 120 degrees. But they work best around 70.
Pretty damn hot.

It really depends on the laptop and the type of processor you're running though. Some AMD's run roughly 60degrees hotter than most Pentiums.
i dont know of the number off the top of my principal but every CPU is different but most of the time the computer will shut itself down automaticly when it overheats so that it wont damage it
