How do you configure a laptop to connect it to the tv?

I want to connect my laptop to the tv. I obligation specific instructions on how to configure my laptop. I have an s video cable, and my laptop is a HP Pavilion near Windows XP. I am using a 4 pin S Video cable. The laptop has a 7 pin S Video jack. Does that affect it?

Answer:

hi....

the 7 pins s-video cable is competent to transmit both audio and video signals...so u can watch a movie using the tv speakers,,,,near the 4 pins s-video,,,it will transmit only the video signal....my laptop is supplied next to 7 pins s-video port but i use a 4-pins s-video cable and external speakers from the headphone jack...that works perfectly...and u enjoy to push the screen signed button while holding fin to switch between the tv and laptop picture....good luck
The extra 3 holes within the jack probably aren't hooked up to anything so it will probably be fine. If you'r able to hook it up to the tv, but it there's no signal, try pressing the button that looks approaching a tv with two lines around it. It's F3 on my computer. You may enjoy to hold the Fn button while pressing the other button.
